INNOVA, located on the 6th floor of the Learning Crossroads, is a dynamic space for research, training, and collaboration, equipped with cutting-edge technology. It supports the advancement of French-language education, fostering innovation, experimentation, and community engagement to strengthen Ontario’s Francophone community across all education levels.
Funded by Heritage Canada and the University of Ottawa, Innova empowers educators, researchers, and students to explore new possibilities in the future of learning.

Immersive cylinder
A 9-meter circumference immersive cylinder is a high-definition technology that integrates detailed images or videos into a vertical cylinder. This technology provides a multi-angle view, delivering an immersive and interactive user experience.
Research at INNOVA
INNOVA is committed to supporting researchers from all disciplines, whether in residence or on an ad hoc basis. We provide the necessary space and equipment, such as an office, access to the immersive cylinder or to augmented reality devices, virtual reality, holographic systems, and more, to facilitate their research projects on educational technologies.

Megan Cotnam-Kappel
Research Chair on Digital Thriving in Franco-Ontarian Communities
The new Research Chair on the Digital Vitality of Franco-Ontarian Communities, under the direction of Professor Megan Cotnam-Kapel of the University of Ottawa, has established its residency at INNOVA for the academic year 2024-2025.
Étienne Trépanier
Director, Educational Innovation and Legal Knowledge Mobilization, Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section, University of Ottawa
Since fall 2024, INNOVA has also welcomed Étienne Trépanier, lawyer, filmmaker, and web designer, who founded Jurivision.ca, a platform for mobilizing legal knowledge through video. Jurivision became a permanent initiative of the Faculty in 2023 and makes the law accessible through images, storytelling, gamification, and immersive experiences.
Jérémie Séror
OLBI Research Chair in Technology-Mediated Language Learning and Artificial Intelligence
Jérémie Séror, Researcher in Residence at INNOVA Space, explores how artificial intelligence is transforming language learning. His research examines the impact of emerging technologies on the personalization of educational experiences. INNOVA Space provides a unique environment to test the intersection of technology and education.
Pascale Fournier
Director of the Observatory on Human Rights at the UN
A renowned professor with multidisciplinary expertise, Pascale Fournier brings to INNOVA an innovative vision that unites educational technology, Francophone communities, and human rights. As Researcher in Residence for 2025-2026 and Director of the Observatory on Human Rights at the UN, her research is distinguished by its international scope and community engagement.
Entrepreneurship at INNOVA
INNOVA Space is committed to supporting innovative entrepreneurs, particularly within the Francophone community. Our space offers a complete ecosystem including collaborative workspaces, access to cutting-edge virtual and augmented reality technologies, as well as a network of experts in educational technology. Our goal is to facilitate the development of innovative solutions and foster connections between the Francophone academic and entrepreneurial worlds.

Charles-Antoine Hallé
Entrepreneur in Residence 2024-2025
A student at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law and an accomplished entrepreneur, Charles-Antoine brings his expertise in educational technology innovation and entrepreneurial initiatives. Since 2017, he has led several innovative projects in education, gaming, and economic development, both locally and internationally, including Apprends & Entreprends, Défi48, and Legal Sensus.
This residency perfectly aligns with our mission to stimulate research, training, and innovation in educational technology, while supporting francophone talent and entrepreneurial spirit.
