ChatGPT can write complete grammatically perfect documents with minimal prompting. A flotilla of similar Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are en route, promising to further complicate the landscape for scholars, students, and educators alike. For university teachers, are these products threats to fraud detection and student development, or are they tools for student skills enhancement?

Professor Deonandan's project is part of a three-year Chairship awarded annually by the Teaching and Learning Support Service to advance research into teaching and learning that benefits the entire university community.

Professor Deonandan also holds appointments with the Life Research Institute and the Centre for Health Law, Policy & Ethics, and is a Senior Fellow at Massey College at the University of Toronto. A former Chief Scientist with the federal government, Professor Deonandan is also an award-winning journalist and novelist: winner of the national book award of the nation of Guyana, and Amazon bestselling author. During the pandemic, he achieved national recognition as a frequent commenter and advisor on all aspects of COVID-19 epidemiology and vaccine science.
