Research

The INNOVA space aims to actively contribute to the leadership of the University of Ottawa in increasing innovation capacity and high-quality research on the continuum of francophone education, particularly in postsecondary education.

Research initiatives and activities

Starting in the Fall of 2024, INNOVA will support several research initiatives and activities focused on emerging technologies and education. These initiatives include participatory conferences and workshops on artificial intelligence and higher education, research on Francophonie in Ontario and digital citizenship, and the design-research of pedagogical simulation activities for students.

Organization of Knowledge Dissemination Events

INNOVA presents a unique opportunity for researchers to organize their scholarly activities and events, leveraging the space, equipment, and technical support of the University of Ottawa's Teaching and Learning Support Service (TLSS) team. As a testament to this, INNOVA is thrilled to host the first inter-institutional event on AI and higher education in October 2024. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting event.

Researchers in Residence

INNOVA is committed to supporting researchers from all disciplines, whether in residence or on an ad hoc basis. We provide the necessary space and equipment, such as an office, access to the immersive cylinder or to augmented reality devices, virtual reality, holographic systems, and more, to facilitate their research projects on educational technologies.

Researcher-in-residence 2024

During the 2024-2025 academic year, INNOVA will also be pleased to host the new Research Chair on the Digital Vitality of Franco-Ontarian Communities, held by Professor Megan Cotnam-Kapel of the University of Ottawa.

Research Partnerships with the Francophone Community

INNOVA also supports and facilitates the connection between researchers and the francophone community, supporting their grant applications and realizing their projects. This support includes, among other things, establishing a connection between the researcher and the external partner, granting a letter of support in kind for applications for research funds, helping to prepare and submit an ethics certificate application, and providing access to equipment.

Since the fall of 2023, several promotional activities on the INNOVA initiative and community needs analysis have been launched with post-secondary institutions and French-language school boards nationwide. Discussions on initial research projects have begun with the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est (CECCE) and the Consortium d'apprentissage virtuel de langue française de l'Ontario (CAVLFO).

The INNOVA team invites researchers interested in the various proposed activities to submit their questions or requests at: saea-tlss@uottawa.ca.
