Learning together: Step-ahead mentoring in undergraduate qualitative research methods courses

This project explores step-ahead mentoring within an upper-year undergraduate qualitative research methods course. The course revolves around a semester-long group project in which students gain hands-on experience in the full research cycle. To support learning, each group is paired with a graduate student mentor—someone a step ahead in their academic journey—who acts as a reflective guide and methodological sounding board. The project draws on several years of testing this model and a scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) research study, considering the benefits and challenges of step-ahead mentoring.
Implementation and Evaluation of a Two-Stage Quiz and a Novel Grading Framework

This project introduced a two-stage quiz to support student learning in MAT 1348 (Discrete Maths for computing) course along with a new grading approach. As part of the two-stage quiz, students completed the quiz individually and then collaboratively, helping them learn through discussion and improve their understanding. As part of the grading process, I implemented a novel grading technique for the final exam to maintain fairness and improve time management.
Scaling Excellence: Rethinking Large-Class Teaching

This project seeks to redesign and restructure an existing course to effectively serve a large, diverse student body with varying backgrounds and career perspectives. This approach blended proven course materials with innovative Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies, ensuring the course remains rigorous while fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment for every student.
